Introducing the Sharpies
This site belongs to the Finnish darts club named Sharpies registered in 1979 and set up a few years earlier. Our main purpose is passing time by playing darts in weekly competitions in our home venue, Stone Bay Inn, located in Kivenlahti, Espoo, around 15 miles to the west of downtown Helsinki. On top of that, we´ve participated every year in the national league by means of a few teams and in some main tournaments of the FDO (Finnish Darts Organisation) such as the Finnish Team Cup and the Finnish Open. Furthermore, friendly matches have also been included in our yearly activities. Especially that against Stone Bay Stitchers (Kivenlahden Ristikka, whose logo is below) have played a significant role in our leisure pursuits. In recent years our membership has regularly consisted of 40 to 50 players and supporting members (involving all from rigid chief executives to happy-go-lucky workers) whose age has varied between 25 and 70 years. Each of us has been ranked quite far from the top but we just play darts to have fun. Therefore besides the previous mentioned darts activities, the Christmas party and that of season-ending will also be given annually. By the way, the best result in our history is a runner-up place which belongs to Eija Metsi-Mellberg. She reached the final of the Finnish Championship in 1992 only to lose to Päivi Jussila who is remembered particularly for her Finnish Open titles as well as her tough battles against Deta Hedman. Weekly competitions where everyone is truly welcome are arranged on Fridays during wintertime and on Thursdays during summertime.
